She panted softly, gasping for breath as she pressed hard to the wall behind her. Unsure what chased her, or whom. Her eye where wild as they wheeled back and forth attempting to find the figure of it. The once car jammed streets before her where nowlittered with rubble and mangled vehicles.
Off to one side what had been a police car belonging to New Yorks finest, now lay on its back like and upended turtle. Its wheels long since stripped, its carcus beaten and ravaged for any usable parts.
Across that street the shell of what had been a bodega. She wondered if this street had ever known a happier time. Those distracting thoughts of hers played out as her eyes kept tracking. And there.. there it was. Its bulk was huge, as it moved through the grim and broken husks of the city.
Its mouth, moving with testicles. She knew it, the Nyhlloghast. Nearly impossible to kill, at least she had no chance of it. Her best hope was to avoid detection. So she shrunk back in shadows and prayed like she'd never prayed before. This creature was one of the worst in her estimation. Ruthless, deadly, it would just as soon fuck you as eat you, and sometimes it did both. If you survived the rape, then your outlook hardly got better as it had been known to drag its victims back to is lair where it gleefully shared that same victim with its pack. Very few victims made it back alive.
She poised the small knife to her throat, she'd kill herself rather than allow that thing to get its meaty, talon tipped hands on her. And she prayed for all she was worth that someone, someone would come to save her...
She was trapped where she was in the blind alley, watching as it lumbered and searched for her. Her only saving grace was that unlike the hellhounds, this beings sense of smell sucked. All she had to do was stay still, stay quiet, stay hidden, and pray...

"Shhh." The wall spoke when she bumped back into a softer portion of it. There were others, lingering in the shadows, waiting for the more volatile creatures to pass by. If she turned to look at him she'd see a very human face looked back at her, a finger pressed to his lips to insist she be silent. The color of his eyes was grey, calm. It was like looking into a monochromatic face that told her not to scream and give them both away. Attention went from her to the brick alleyway, slick with run-off from the night before and cluttered with all of the discarded things moved by rats.
The smell hits someone's nose hard. Not every creature in the world was like that, but this one was particularly bad. It wasn't the sort that thought about bathing itself after the acts it committed. It was wet flesh and rotting garbage punching his nose. Their breath held in the alleyway and they watched it move, like an eclipse, passing the opening with a short pause before it continued on. Its pace had picked up, it was getting stressed at the loss of its victim. She had to be close, maybe further along. It wouldn't be until the thoughts of another victim filled its mind that its focus would move on. It would keep searching, its needs were basic and little creativity was head behind its eyes. Searching to fill its double hunger.
"You should put that down, now," he was talking about the knife, stilll pressed against her throat. His eyebrows lowered as he judged her face, "What are you doing in this district? It's not meant for someone like you." She could perhaps see it now, with him having pushed away from the wall and standing at a slight distance to her. His hair was dark, his features angular and hard. Human, not quite human. People were able to spot him and what he was more easily these days. It called for him to be more creative, sometimes even more brutal. They were looking for breeds of blood now. Humans weren't the big boys on the playground anymore.

She nearly pissed herself at the sound behind her. She did flinch, the knife bit skin, a warm rivulet of blood trickled as she froze in place. Only then realizing that the hard wall she was pressed to was in fact a hard cold body. All this registered for a moment before her attention once more was stolen by movement at the alley entrance.
Breath was held in check, hand poised and frozen. Time seemed to tick loudly as the Ghast paused, searched, then a slow exhale as it moved off.
She turned slowly, the knife remained poised even as her eyes took in the manner of being who'd shared the alley with her. Only at his softly spoken words did she lower the knife. Only to thrust it out towards him as she skittered away from the shelter of his body. How silly she felt as she realized that this was no meer man but one of the Caan's.. Had to be a Caananite..
Feeling foolish, she lowered the blade, let it snick back into the small sheath she wore as her eyes lay huge on the grey calm of his. What was she doing there?
"Hiding?" came the obvious reply. Of course in her shock she hadn't connected that his question was more about what she was doing in his district than what she was doing sharing the alley with him..
After a moment with no outward lunge from him she began to relax some..
"I got turned around.. that bastard's been chasing me for five blocks now.. ", what was left unsaid was that each time she'd found a hidey whole it had found her. Hoping that this time she'd ditched it. Had she ditched one beast only to become the meal of another? She could not help but wonder..

Even on vampire standards, Thalas was considered to be odd. It happened when someone was as old as him, walking through the time and lives of so many people. Their idea of life, safety and communication changed. Even the way their memories wove and would sometimes form a tangle. He could forget the day, but not that centuries had passed. His eyes shot down the alley way, either way, as she spoke her explanation of why she was there. "Hell of a place to be lost." It wasn't meant to be a clever play on words. He'd just said it and then jammed his hands into the pockets of his leath coat. When she waved the blade at him his eyebrows arched upward, "Really? It's a little late to be protecting yourself after the fact."
He stepped away from her and to the edge of the building, looking beyond it to see if the creature had gotten a good ways off from them. There were other things, lurking about, most of which were small creatures like rats or the sound of a building falling apart. If you weren't a meal you might just get flattened. With a creature like that around he wondered just how close to a gate they were. Starvation was the other death option that followed.
"Well, then, goodluck." It was dry and without much sincerity. He lit a cigarette, took a drag and started his walk down the street. He stopped and looked in windows and sometimes would open doors. The Canaanite was looking for something. Maybe even someone. There was always a look over his shoulder. In an area like this, he was far from being the big dog in town and it wasn't time for him to die yet.
He also might just be the only way she survives this town.

Her first instinct was to chase after him. Common sense however prevailed. Why escape one beings dinner plate only to plant yourself in anothers.. right?
She gave him a heartbeat or two before slipping out behind him. Cautious, fearful, silent as she wove her way through rubble and ruin.
Silent prayer like a mantra "just be safe" echoed in her head as she moved. Was'nt just the damned one would have to be cautious of, it was the environment as well..
She would make it to the end of the block before she found herself chased down and overwhelmed by a pack of hellhounds..
Guess prayers did'nt work to well in this new world....
