This board is for threads which involve stories with various locations, times and characters. It is where anyone can post what they have to write and share.
If you want your thread to be an internal monologue or diary-like entry, be sure to click on the middle box below this text area titled "If checked, this thread will be locked once you post." This will prevent people from accidentally assuming that the thread is open for anyone to post.
Speaking of assumptions...
Right now the community is small and everyone on here knows me well enough to at least have an idea of what I'm about. I tend to prefer rp that is staged before the advent of guns and electricity, but I have rped modern story lines and some historical fiction type of work. However, we can't all have an idea of what other players like and intend to write.
Point being... if you post something which is open for anyone to respond to but don't clarify any of your preferences, you've allowed for a misunderstanding to occur. If you are someone that is reading a post that invites anyone to respond (You should have "(open)" at the end of your post to make it's availability clear) and are unsure what's acceptable, there's no harm in asking before you post.
The profiles offer little in terms of giving you an area to clarify your preferences, or expand on your character in there. For that reason, there is a thread for you to introduce your character and say what you desire to share about them in the OOCC section. If the site gets large enough to warrant me either a) altering the profile set up, which is a pain or b) going to a different website host that allows for it.
How to post clearly for other rpers
If you are concerned with people posting incorrectly or in a manner not like what you desired (a mad science meets Lord of the Rings sort of event) then this is what you should do to give yourself peace of mind. We will assume that this is a single thread you are wanting to make so you do not need your own board for it because you will be posting in the "Word Has It" board. You will title the thread whatever it is you like ( with (open) at the end if it is something you're willing to have anyone respond to) and make your first post a CONCISE description of the thread. Do not go into a long history of all of your rping preferences and what is and isn't acceptable with your character since that should be covered in a post done in the OOC section. After that initial FYI post, then go into the thread's story line as you desire. If you have your own board, you can describe its intentions at the very beginning (As all the boards have brief FYI descriptions). For example,
Your board name: The Harbor Town
Description: A town's harbor with a beaten dock and plenty of rowdy peasants pleased to have a drink of mead.
In reading that, "peasants" and "mead" indicate that it isn't a modern time period, that the setting is at a harbor which isn't new or well maintained. Now, that is an assumption that you, as a reader, are making and in general it's a pretty fair one to be making. If you do make a board with its little description and no follow up thread that has a more thorough explanation of the time and place, there is a window for misinterpretation. Personally, I don't think it's an issue but do what makes you feel comfortable. Deleting accidents is but a click away! The benefit behind having a beginning thread which explains more of the story and setting is that if you are looking for others to join in they will be able to read those posts and have both an idea of whether or not they want to and also, what sort of story it is that you're role playing.
In the future, I hope to edit the message icons so that one says "open" and "closed" or "limited" to signal what it means to others. If it's open, anyone can post. If closed, no one else can post. If it's limited it means that other people are posting, but they've been invited to do so as opposed to randomly joining in.
There you have it.
